Doull Family Named as Shetland Wool Week Patron

  • Submitted by: Beatrice Wishart, Shetland Islands, Scottish Liberal Democrats.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 03 May 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-13079

That the Parliament congratulates Addie and Margaret Doull and their family, from Isleburgh Farm, on being named as Shetland Wool Week Patron for 2024 in recognition of their dedication to the Shetland Flock Book, and their commitment to preserving and championing the highest quality Shetland wool; considers that the awarding of patron to the Doull family recognises the important contribution that it makes through work on the Shetland Flock Book, which preserves and protects the native sheep breed; commends Margaret Doull and her daughter, Anne, for their knitting achievements, winning prizes locally and nationally; understands that this is the first time that a family has been chosen as patron; further understands that the Doull family has been farming since 1970 and is frequently invited to judge shows across the UK due to its expertise in wool and sheep evaluation; notes that the awarding of the patron is accompanied by the launch of a knitting pattern for a hat, which for 2024 has been designed by Anne and takes inspiration from Margaret’s renowned hand-knitted Shetland lace, the location of the farm and the involvement with the Shetland Flock Book; considers that the Doull family is deserving of the patron accolade, and wishes them all a successful tenure as Shetland Wool Week Patron 2024.
